Heritage Impact Assessments

In line with international guidelines by World Bank, EU, IFC,and ICOMOS, most African countries legislation which stipulate heritage impact assessment as part of any larger evironmental and social impact assessment in advance of a development project. African Heritage Consulting conducts such heritage impact assessments in Sub-Saharan Africa, taking into account archaeology, built heritage and intangible cultural heritage. In this way, we can ensure compliance from the onset and prevent problems and delays down the line when a project area turns out to hold a sacred site or other community sensitivities.

We have completed heritage impact assessments in Africa for various clients including Digby Wells Environmental (SA), Nemus (Lisbon) and for various projects, including dam and pipe line construction and mining.
