UNESCO Cultural Conventions

Many African countries do not have adequate inventories of their tangible and intangible heritage. Moreover, writing World Heritage nomination dossiers, or nominations for the Representative List of the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage Convention are intricate processes and so are the subsequent management and periodic reporting mandatory when nominations have been succesful. African Heritage can assist and advise in these endeavours so that expectations of inscription and compliance are timely met. We can equally advise on the implementation of the 2005 Convention on the Diversity of Cultural Expressions.

Menno Welling is an active member of UNESCO cultural advising body ICOMOS and has been engaged in the evaluation of several World Heritage nominations and was involved in the preparation of the nomination of Mulanje Mountian Cultural Landscape. He received UNESCO training on its cultural conventions in Lilongwe, Mombasa and Harare.
